This chapter offers a quantitative analysis of physical activity by conducting a didactic se-
quence of physical education as an area of personal and social development in students in
sixth grade of primary school, for which two contents have been associated: 1) environmental
care and 2) attention to the body and health, which conform to those proposed in the current
program established by the Ministry of Public Education. During the physical education class, Y LA PRÁCTICA
the system for observing fitness and instruction time (SOFIT) was used to assess the intensity
of physical activity. This methodology - used in different studies with Mexican schoolchildren -
was applied prior training, with trained observers who randomly selected - by simple draw - 4
students (2 men and 2 women), for which they were based on the group list using the proce-
dure scheme of the SOFIT manual. These were observed in a rotating sequence of 12 intervals
for 20 seconds each. The physical education session resulted in a moderate to vigorous phys-
ical activity intensity exceeding 50% of the duration of the session, intensity that matches the VÍNCULO ENTRE LA TEORÍA
standards suggested by organizations such as the United States National Association for Sport
and Physical Education (NASPE) and what is recommended by the World Health Organization
(WHO). As a future line of research, it would be important to analyze elements such as those
studied in this work, but during the school day of recess or during free time.
